We all know that social media is one of the best tools for getting our message out into the world and connecting with other people. Twitter, Facebook, and the like are used personally and professionally on a grand scale. We have embraced character limits and boosted posts to make sure our content gets to our intended audiences.
But what if I said that social media isn’t just for talking? Many users overlook that the same place where they can send out content, is also where they can get an in-depth look at what their audience is interested in and what they might want to see in the future.
Twitter is one of the best places to go to listen. If you’re using Twitter for your law firm, this platform is a veritable gold mine of audience information. Users speak their minds on this site unlike any other. This is where they will go on at length about their likes, dislikes and anything in-between. Taking some time every now and again to peruse your audiences content will help you tailor and improve your posts more than you know.
Once you’ve started listening, now it’s time to tailor your content to fit. While your legalese and blogs are fantastic content, sometimes you may need to switch up what you’re giving your audience to keep them engaged. This is when you become a local authority on Twitter; a trusted source of information in your community who helps to keep everyone informed on the local happenings.
Supplement your legal posts and firm promotion with shared posts about fun events in your city or interesting news. Basically, just show that you care. Audiences seem to respond and engage at a high rate with local interest posts like these:

If nothing else, one of the most helpful things you can do to benefit your personal or firm Twitter is to show a little personality. So, go ahead and post a #TBT (#ThrowbackThursday) every once in a while; people love to see that we don’t want to just throw information at them all day. Showing some personality in your posts often leads to more interest in your professional content because users gain trust in you and your firm. After all, most users aren’t looking to follow a legal robot — so lighten up a little, have some fun and go dominate Twitter.
